Confido Coonawarra: Putting sustainability at the heart of every harvest
Meet the Coonawarra couple putting sustainability at the heart of every harvest
Nestled in the heart of South Australia's renowned Coonawarra region, Confido Coonawarra is more than an olive oil producer, it's the result of one couple’s passion for quality, sustainability and life on the land.
When Heidi and David Boyd purchased a property in Coonawarra, building a business wasn't part of the plan. But after producing a small batch of olive oil from the grove on their property and sharing it with family and friends, they discovered an unexpected passion, and Confido Coonawarra was born.
Today, the family-owned business produces premium extra virgin olive oil from around 1,600 olive trees, with sustainability and quality at the heart of everything they do.
For Heidi, the reward comes after months of hard work.
"Seeing the produce that we've spent all year growing, nurturing and getting it off the tree and then seeing that final product, it's really fulfilling, because you've created something really lovely that everyone's enjoying. And it's local,’ she says.
Harvest season brings long days and challenges, but it's all part of life on the land.
"Things go wrong, things break. That's how farms work," Heidi said. "But once it's all done and you’ve got all that produce at the end and you see people's faces, that's the biggest gratification."
That dedication to producing exceptional olive oil is matched by a commitment to caring for the land.

"If you haven't got quality, don't bother. It's natural, it's genuine, it's a very simple process, and the goodness within the end product is proven time and time again."
Sustainability is equally important, with the Boyds planning an eco-garden that naturally encourages beneficial insects to reduce the need for sprays.
“We’re big on sustainable farming and practices where there’s minimal intervention.”
David says the support from the local community has played a huge role in the business's success.
"The local community are all about supporting local. The support from the community is fantastic. We wouldn't be where we are now without them."
What started as a simple lifestyle change has grown into a business proudly showcasing South Australian produce, one bottle of olive oil at a time.
